This is how I approach comics. This is how I feel you have to approach your craft. There may not be a single page in comics that has been more like a mantra for me in my life. Well this, or the page where dude actually kills the buddha(spoiler).
I feel like the path to learning anything is to grow up and learn from all of the greats who inspire you. But once you reach the point where you have mastered all they have to teach you. You have to kill them inside of you. In the end you have to walk your own path, beholden to no one.
So a lot of artists that I idolize it’s with the somber thought in the back of my mind, that eventually I will have to kill that side of me. And that everything I love right now is already dead. I just haven’t seen the moment yet.
That’s the coldblooded hunger that gets me to the drawing table everyday.
